Pioneer Day 2026

Utah's biggest summer holiday is July 24th. Parades, rodeos, festivals, and drone shows light up communities from Ogden to Provo. Here's what's happening along the Wasatch Front this year.

Fireworks Safety Alert · Updated July 8, 2026

Personal fireworks are banned statewide through July — including Sandy, Draper, and all of the Wasatch Front

Governor Cox has issued a temporary executive order (EO 2026-04) banning personal fireworks statewide due to historic wildfire conditions. This applies everywhere along the Wasatch Front — Sandy, Draper, Salt Lake County, South Jordan, Lehi, Provo, and beyond. The default ban covers the Independence Day window (July 2–5), and many cities along the Front have maintained additional local restrictions extending through the month.

Here's the good news: Pioneer Day professional fireworks shows and drone displays are still happening. Cities across the Wasatch Front are investing in spectacular, permitted public shows — drone light shows, rodeo-night fireworks, and organized displays that are both legal and far more impressive than anything you could light in your backyard. The best way to celebrate this Pioneer Day is to attend one of the community events listed below.

Even outside emergency orders, fireworks in Utah are tightly restricted to brief annual windows and are always prohibited on or near state land, hillsides, and wildland-urban interface zones. If you're planning to buy or light any fireworks, check with the Utah State Fire Marshal for the latest rules before you do.

Utah's Holiday

What is Pioneer Day?

Pioneer Day — July 24th — is Utah's most significant state holiday. It commemorates the arrival of Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847, and has grown into a massive celebration of Utah's heritage, community, and culture.

For residents along the Wasatch Front, Pioneer Day is bigger than the Fourth of July. Cities put on parades, rodeos, festivals, and fireworks shows that rival any Independence Day celebration in the country. It's a uniquely Utah experience — and if you're new to the state, your first Pioneer Day is something you won't forget.

The celebrations typically span about ten days, from mid-July through July 24th, with events scattered across communities from Ogden to Provo and beyond. Whether you're watching the Days of '47 Parade in Salt Lake City, catching a rodeo in Ogden, or enjoying a neighborhood drone show in South Jordan, Pioneer Day is the Wasatch Front at its most festive.

Skip the Fireworks

Professional shows are the way to celebrate

With personal fireworks banned statewide, Pioneer Day 2026 is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the professional shows that communities along the Wasatch Front have been planning. These are bigger, safer, and more spectacular than any backyard display.

The Utah Days of '47 Rodeo at the State Fairpark features nightly fireworks and drone shows after each performance. Ogden's Pioneer Days celebration wraps up with drone shows at Pioneer Stadium. South Jordan is hosting drone light shows at America First Square. And many communities are investing in organized public displays that are both legal and impressive.

The bottom line: You don't need personal fireworks to have an incredible Pioneer Day. Grab a blanket, find a good vantage point, and enjoy the shows that your community has put together. It's safer, more festive, and you'll get a front-row seat to some of the best pyrotechnics (and drone art) in the state.

Where to Watch Professional Shows

  • Utah State Fairpark — Nightly shows during the Days of '47 Rodeo (July 22–26)
  • Liberty Park, SLC — Pioneer Day Drone Show on July 24 at 10 PM
  • Pioneer Stadium, Ogden — Nightly shows during Ogden Pioneer Days
  • America First Square, South Jordan — Drone show near Pioneer Day
